Magnolia House is framed by two large heritage-listed magnolia trees to the front, expansive gardens to the side, and a large outdoor terrace, pool and tennis court to the rear. The client’s brief called for an elegant, colourful, robust and highly personal home for a young family who love to entertain. Our approach was to connect the expansive grounds through the pivotal internal living spaces, designing them to generously open up and spill into the landscape.
The facade was restored to its former glory whilst the interiors reveal a striking, contemporary home. The original home’s grand proportions were carried through into new spaces, with 4.5m high ceilings throughout the ground floor and a new basement and private bedroom zone re-designed and extended to the first floor. While a new habitable basement space was created under the existing house, further extending its significant amenity.
We injected colour and shape into spaces through the selection of loose furniture, lighting and art. Collaborating with local suppliers and manufacturers, we made custom carpets, rugs and furniture that add texture and elegance to the formal rooms. With all materials chosen with a focus on quality, texture, colour, and permanence. Pink is a favourite colour of our client’s and features in the bespoke entry rug designed with a curve to mirror the stained glass windows on the front facade. The selection of pink marble for another layer of elegance, and a dining table commissioned through local makers ensures details and furniture imbue spaces with a unique quality.
